Multicultural Community Centre(MCC) Lunar New Year 2026 | My Performance on Liuqin

02/2026

Last Saturday, 21 February 2026, I had the incredible opportunity to perform at the MCC Lunar New Year 2026celebration at Sunnybank, Brisbane. As a musician, there’s something truly special about bringing the liuqin, a traditional Chinese plucked-string instrument, to life for an audience. But sharing it in such a vibrant, community-focused festival was an experience I will never forget.

Stepping onto the stage, I was immediately surrounded by energy—the excitement of families, children, and fellow performers created a wonderful atmosphere. Performing the liuqin, I tried to let every note carry not just the sound, but the story and emotion of the music. Seeing audience members pause and listen, some even closing their eyes to absorb the melodies, reminded me why I love performing so deeply.

Sharing the stage with such talented artists was another highlight. Renee’s voice added so much depth and versatility to the program, moving effortlessly between jazz, R&B, and contemporary styles. The lion dance by International Wushu Academy brought the stage to life with drums, rhythm, and movement, while Let’s Bollywood Brisbane infused the celebration with colour and high-energy dance. The combination of music, dance, and traditional performance made the afternoon unforgettable.

I also loved the interactive moments—people trying instruments, sharing smiles, and experiencing the joy of music firsthand. For me, as a performer, seeing the audience engage so enthusiastically is as rewarding as the performance itself. It reminded me that music is not just about playing notes; it’s about connection, culture, and celebration.

Performing at MCC Lunar New Year 2026 was a truly inspiring experience. I feel grateful to have shared the beauty of the liuqin with the Brisbane community, and I hope it sparked curiosity and joy for traditional Chinese music. I can’t wait for the next opportunity to bring this music to life and connect with more people through the art I love.
