On a warm and relaxing afternoon, the “Echoes of Strings” Liuqin and Ruan Music Gathering was successfully held at the Linlang Pavilion Chinese Cultural Centre in Sunnybank Plaza. The event brought together music lovers and members of the community for an immersive experience into the beauty of traditional Chinese plucked string instruments.
Led by Sally, a dedicated promoter of the Liuqin and Ruan, the session began with an engaging introduction to the history, structure, and unique tonal qualities of these instruments. Through clear and insightful explanations, participants gained a deeper appreciation of their cultural significance and expressive potential.
The live performance segment was a highlight of the event. The bright, delicate tones of the Liuqin blended beautifully with the warm, resonant sound of the Ruan, creating an atmosphere that was both elegant and evocative. The music carried the audience through a vivid soundscape, rich with traditional charm and emotional depth.
One of the most popular parts of the gathering was the hands-on experience session. Participants had the opportunity to try the instruments themselves, exploring the tactile connection between fingers and strings. With guidance, many discovered not only how the instruments are played, but also the joy of making music firsthand.
The event also featured a relaxed tea and refreshment session, where guests connected over shared interests in music and culture. Conversations flowed सहजly, adding a warm and social dimension to the afternoon.
More than just a musical event, “Echoes of Strings” was a meaningful cultural exchange—bringing people closer to the Liuqin and Ruan, and fostering a deeper connection with traditional Chinese music. We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future, continuing to share and celebrate the richness of this musical heritage.
