About

Sally is a young Liuqin performer with a master’s degree in Liuqin performance from Shandong University of Arts. She is a member of the China Nationalities Orchestra Society and the Australian Chinese National Orchestra Association.

Her achievements include:

  • In 2010, she won the Outstanding Performance Award in the professional middle and youth category at the first Liuqin Beijing Invitational Competition.
  • In 2012, she secured second place in the Liuqin Youth Plucked Strings category at the 4th National “Wenhua Art Academy” Awards.
  • In 2012, she was seconded to the Jinan Military Region Vanguard Art Troupe to participate in the large-scale national symphonic performance Yellow River for the 85th anniversary of the founding of the PLA.
  • In August 2013, she was invited to perform at the National Concert Hall in Taipei, Taiwan, as a soloist in the special concert From the Hometown of the Liuqin.
  • In 2017, she was invited to perform at the 6th Brisbane City Hall Chinese Festival in Australia.
  • In 2023, she participated in the Australian premiere of the chamber music piece Dunhuang, invited by AusOriental Inc., in Brisbane.
    In 2023, she won first prize in the comprehensive professional category at the Australia-New Zealand division of the White Magnolia International Music Festival Chinese Music Competition.
    In 2023, she was invited as a guest performer to play a liuqin solo at the Australian citizenship ceremony for new citizens.
  • In 2024, she co-organized the Echo of Jade East-West cultural concert at the Queensland Multicultural Centre, bringing together 7 performers and 5 composers from Australia, the US, and China. The concert featured 5 world premieres and 1 Australian premiere, receiving high acclaim from the industry.
  • In 2024, she was honored to be selected as a representative for the theme: “In Tribute to the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China (1949-2024) and the 40th Anniversary of the World Heritage Day.” This themed postage set was jointly issued and published by the European Philatelic Association and the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Foundation, celebrating cultural revival and the strength of China.
  • In 2025, Sally was honored to be invited to participate in the 6th Sydney International Culture Festival — the “Night of Sydney” Awards Gala Concert at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, serving as the Liuqin section performer.

Since settling in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, in 2014, Sally founded the Queensland Liuqin and Ruan Ensemble, dedicated to promoting and preserving the traditional Chinese plucked string instruments—Liuqin and Ruan(Eastern Mandolin & Guitar). The ensemble blends Eastern and Western musical languages, balancing both academic depth and artistic creativity, and has been actively performing in concerts, arts festivals, and cross-cultural exchange platforms.

In 2023,Sally co-founded the Echo of Jade Music Collective and has actively promoted Chinese national music overseas, contributing to the multicultural development of Brisbane.
